Geopraphical Position

Ünye is located Between 41 north Parallel and the 37° East Meridian and in the middle of the Black Sea Region.It is the largest town of the province of Ordu

with a total population of 65.000 and it coversan area of 740 square kilometers.


 

 

 

Climate : Typical of the "Black Sea climate" Ünye is hot in summer and warm in winter,with rainfull duringall seasons.

 

History : It was established as a coastel city chare-terizing a commercial colony at the and of the Trojan Wars ca.1270 B.C. it is

knownthan in ancient times the name of the town was one.Onea or Oney.Ünye whichlater was dominated by the Assyrians and the Capodocians came under the ruleof the sailor nation the Phoenicıans.Thetown changed ruler several times until annexatşon by the Ponts Commenos Following the Anatolian victoryof Alexsander the Great,the King of Macedonia.Ünye wascabtured only to come later under the rule of the Pont State upon the proclamation of independence by kink midriat of pont.With the fall of the roman Empireat the beginnig of the 4 th centry AC.Ünye was left to the East Roman Empire (Byzantium).Under the byzantum Rule Ünye was famous and also the Ünye wine wassoungtafter in all the southern contries of Europe.Ünye,whick was ruled by the Danishment founded by Melik Ahmet Danishmend Gazi towards the end of the 11 th Anotolia during the period of seljukien era,came in 1371 this time under the rule of Kadı Burhaneddin During the crusades,Ünye changed rulers several time until annaxation to the Ponts Roman State founded Mehmet in the year of 1459 Ünye was included in the Ottoman Empire,increasingly gettin active both politically and sociallywithin our National boundaries there after.

 

 

Naturel Beautles : Ünye,the pearl necklace of the Black Sea,is a charming little town full of natural beauties with touristic values and where the pruple of the rocks are in contrast with the blue of the sky and the gren of tuhe hazelnut plantations,and where the sunrises from the sea and sets in the sea.Ünye is one of the nicest holiday towns of the eastern Black Sea region.Ünye is the only settlement area with natural beaches of the Black Sea.The natural beaches of Çamlk,Uzunkum,Gölevi and İnciraltı are famous in and out of the country.Those beaches where most of the touristic facilities and opportunities can be found are located on the west cost belt.İn addition the plateaus of Perşembe,Akkuş,Argan and Çambaşı near our town have striking beauties to be told and argues in the international platform.
Historicial And Touristic Attractions


 

 

Ünye Castle : İt was erected on an extinct volcanic hill of the Middle Age,with a hight of approximately 180 200 meters,located at the 7th kilometer and to the left of the Ünye Niksar Road.The castle clearly visible even from the sea is a touristic place of our town worth visiting.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Asarkaya National Park : Asarkaya National Prk,6 km sounth of Ünye,overlooks tos he seo from an altitude of 385 meters.Thist touristic Park,run by the General Forestry Department,is an ideal place of relaxation in nature.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Churches : The only chuch in the center of the town believed to be arected during the Byzantium era is now used as a Turkish bath.

 

Ünye Castle And Rock Grave : İt is placed down park of the Ünye castle and belongs to VII B.C century,costracted like a temple and its the best rock grave.

Hagia Nicola : This peninsulalike site,descending from the time of the Ponts and rumored to be used for religiouns ceremonies now appears to have lost most of its old time charm.

 

Tozkoparan Caves : These caves,located at the very same place of Tozkoparan are 4 km away from our town and at the village of Günpınar,are worth seeing historical heritages.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

City Walls : The place built by then the Ünye Leader Soliman Pasha was totally burn down in a fire.However,walls especially those facing the sea were preserved guite good.

 

 

 

 

 

Yunus Emre : The grave of Yunus Emre,the famed folk poet is rumored to be at Kiraztepe of the Town of Ünye.

Archıtectural Chacter Of The Town : Ünye can be taken as the starting point of the Black Sea style of Architecture.Abudant examplesof this style are no less important than those of Safranbolu of the Black Sea Region.
